Redlands Skatepark
These photos depict the typical Saturday afternoon down at the skatepark that’s just right across the street. I’ve been reading a book titled, Dawoud Bey on Photographing People and Communities, and was struck by a particular statement:
“...ultimately what mattered was not the truth of the scene, as much as why you ended up with in the photograph. It’s not the truth; it’s a photograph. There’s the life of the subject in the photograph, and then there’s the life of the subject in the real world. They’re related, but they’re not the same thing.”
Thinking about this quote and the photographs I made, I am only showing you the successful tricks and landings. The truth of the scene was he was constantly falling and making mistakes, but that is not what you see.
